About Griffens Marina

Welcome to Griffens Marina Houseboats at Blanchetown, a privately owned and secluded waterfront marina nestled below ancient limestone cliffs, in the beautiful Riverland region of South Australia - the ideal location to commence your Murray River houseboat hire.

Located only 90 minutes from Adelaide through the world famous Barossa Valley, our property enjoys convenient access from the Sturt Highway and offers secure on site parking with flat lawned moorings for easy loading and unloading of your hire houseboat.

Discover the best of the Murray River at Blanchetown.

We are a small family business that have been providing quality houseboat holidays for over 17 years on our very special part of the Murray. Together with our friendly team, we invite you to cruise in style and have an extra special houseboat holiday.

We want you to have the best holiday possible and our stretch of the Murray River between Blanchetown and Morgan, is truly spectacular. Enjoy stunning scenery, tranquil lagoons, majestic river red gums, wide river expanses, loads of good mooring spots, and abundant birdlife and wildlife.

The lock system along the River Murray controls the flow of water, and being above Lock 1 means there is always plenty of water for houseboats to travel safely. The magnificent cliffs that line the river, not only provide a haven for nesting birds, and other river life, they also hold many secrets in the form of fossilised shells and ancient sea creatures.

We specialise in couples, small group and family houseboat hire and want your houseboat holiday to be a truly memorable experience.

There is nothing better than cruising off into a Murray River sunset with your loved one on a houseboat!

Our small (yet spacious) houseboats are very easy to operate, economical to run and have everything on board to make your holiday extra special. We have two of the most comfortable and well appointed small hire houseboats on the Murray, and combined with our great location, you will have an experience to remember.

Our family style houseboats are also very easy to drive and allow you to enjoy the beauty of the Murray with a larger group.

We take pride in our comprehensive tuition, and make sure you are very familiar with how everything works before you leave the marina. Each houseboat has an operating manual and mobile telephone on board, and we are only a call away if you have a question!

We can even help you arrange transfers from Adelaide if you are flying in from interstate, or if you are travelling with your caravan, we can provide safe, private parking.

As an added extra, we also have PET FRIENDLY houseboat hire options . We understand how important it can be to include your dog in your holiday activities, so our family houseboat Adventurer and small houseboats Scallywag and Scamp are pet friendly for dogs (conditions apply - please refer to section in FAQ).

If you have a doggy member of the family that needs to travel with you, please enquire when booking.

So proud to win!

Griffens' News

December 2017:

Welcome, and thank you for visiting our website. We hope you enjoy having a look around.

Firstly, we are absolutely thrilled to announce we won the South Australian Tourism Award for Unique Accommodation on the 10th November and were also inducted into the South Australian Tourism Hall of Fame for winning the Award three years in a row. For our small family business this is a huge honour, and one we are very proud of. We love sharing our backyard and would be delighted to welcome you to our special part of the Murray River.

Summer is a great time to enjoy all the Murray River has to offer  - warm to hot weather, and cooler evenings that are perfect for relaxing under the twinkling stars.

The backwaters are brimming with life and there are so many birds around - it is such a joy to see. We can even hire you a double kayak so you can explore, discover and get to places you can't by foot! You will be amazed at the wetland birds you will encounter, and be dwarfed by the giant redgums standing like sentinels in the river (of course we also provide life vests for your safety. The river is a wonderful playground but you must always treat it with respect and take care at all times)

We give you plenty of tips and instruction on how to handle your houseboat during your show out lesson, and our instructors love pointing out their favourite mooring spots. You may even get told where the fish have been biting too.

If you need a relaxing break where you can reconnect with family and friends and experience a special part of South Australia's Riverland please get in touch - and with 2018 just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start planning your special autumn or winter escape for next year!

Cheers, Miriam Griffen
